England trip 4E: So much more than just a language trip

In September 2016 my classmates and I had the opportunity to travel to England together with our teachers Ms. Held and Mr. Gigl for twelve days. At Heathrow Airport we met Jo Farrington, our guide and host. We started to explore London and visited some famous attractions including Camden Town, Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square and China Town. We also went shopping and the highlights of the day were the gigantic M&Ms World near China Town and taking a ride on the London Eye. After this exhausting day we stayed in a youth hostel near Kensington Palace and were looking forward to a good night’s sleep.
After waking up feeling fresh and full of power, we spent our second day in London exploring Kensington Gardens and riding the famous red bus. Later in the day we took a four-hour bus ride to Moorland Hall, Devon. We arrived late in the evening but to our relief the cook had already prepared a delicious and filling dinner. After that we went to our dormitories and fell asleep in a wink.
Our stay at Moorland Hall was a mix of English grammar and conversation lessons in the morning and afternoon activities such as mountain biking, archery, body boarding, kayaking, learning survival skills, high rope climbing and exploring the moor, where we saw Dartmoor ponies and cattle. We also went to Plymouth to watch a rugby game. One day we went to see the Royal National Lifeboat Institution in Looe. We learned a lot about how much the ships were worth and about the education of the lifeguards. On Sunday we went to church in Tavistock and afterwards we visited a Victorian village named Morwellham. We went to see a mine there, which brought us to think about the shocking conditions children and adults had to work in back in the old days.
We really enjoyed our trip to London and Moorland Hall. Not only did we improve our English skills, but what is more, we learned a lot about ourselves and each other. Most importantly, our team spirit got much stronger.
